Explained: What is the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act of 1991


Last month a court at Varanasi ordered a videographed survey of the Mosque to find out the veracity of the claim. The order was challenged in the Allahabad High Court, but after the same was rejected the Supreme Court was moved.

New Delhi, May 18: A debate has broken out following the plea filed by five Hindu women seeking permission to worship idols within the Gyanvapi Mosque complex. The women stated that the Mosque was built after demolishing a Temple which stood there in the 17th century.
